How to Apply

Before applying to the program

Ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for admission to the program. Students must have the following:

  • EMT Certification and License

Applicants must have successfully completed the NREMT exam resulting in an active certification and current Oklahoma State Department of Health issued license to work as an EMT. There is a small grace period where you can enter the paramedic program even though you have not yet passed your NREMT exam. Students may enter Paramedic Care 1 with successful completion of an EMT program but do not yet have their EMT certification. In this case, the student must successfully obtain their EMT certification in order to successful pass and complete Paramedic Care 1.

Note: If you have been previously certified as an EMT, please contact the National Registry of EMTs for information on becoming recertified.

  • Pre-requisite Coursework

It is recommended to complete your Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) requirement prior to starting the paramedic program. While you can complete A&P BIOL 1515 during your first semester, you will have a much less restrictive schedule if the course is completed first.

    Transfering Course Credits

Review the OSU-OKC campus transfer of credit policy for more information. Transfer of credits for previous paramedic work must be reviewed by the Paramedicine Program Director and the campus Registrar. Previous paramedic institution records such as lab records, clinical records, patient competency records, course syllabi, and academic would all need to be reviewed before applying any transfer credits to the Paramedicine program.

Regardless of previous work completed, any student entering the Paramedicine program at OSU-OKC would still have to meet all the terminal objectives and minimum competencies for skills, clinical hours, internships, and patient contact types.

  • Math proficiency of 050 or higher

contact the Testing and Assessment Center for scheduling.

  • Required Pre-clinical Vaccinations
    • Two negative tuberculosis skin tests or one negative blood draw

    • Completed COVID19 vaccination(s)

    • Hepatitis B 3-shot vaccination series, positive titer showing immunity, or signed

      declination form

    • Varicella (Chicken Pox) 2-shot vaccination series, or positive titer showing

      immunity

    • Two MMR vaccinations OR positive titers showing immunity

    • Tdap shot received within the past 10 years

    • Seasonal Influenza vaccination (Not applicable to summer semesters)

  • "Clear" GroupOne Background Check

OSU-OKC does not restrict who enrolls in the paramedic program based on criminal background. However, many of our clinical partners have strict requirements on who they allow to clinicals at their facility. If our clinical partners will not allow you to attend their facility then you would not be able to successfully complete our program.

Once you complete the program, you would still need to become certified through the National Registry of EMTs. They have their own requirements related to criminal backgrounds. If you feel you have something on your background check that may hinder your ability to complete clinicals or become Nationally Registered, it is highly recommended that you discuss this with the Paramedicine Program Director as well as the National Registry.

Application Checklist

Step 1: Apply to OSU-OKC

Interested applicants of the Paramedicine program must first apply and be admitted to OSU-OKC. When applying to OSU-OKC, declare the Paramedicine program as your major.

When applicants are transferring courses from other institutions, it is strongly suggested to apply to Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City approximately 4-6 weeks prior to submitting a program application packet.

Complete the online OSU-OKC application

Step 2: Have an OKEY student account to receive official school emails.

Creating an OKEY student account will provide you with a Campus-wide ID and student email address (@okstate.edu). You must list your CWID on all application documents and communicate with your official okstate.edu email account.

Step 3: Purchase Fisdap activation code.

OSU-OKC uses Fisdap to schedule all clinical (hospital) and field (shifts). Fisdap is an online scheduling tool that each student is required to purchase prior to the start of class. All clinical and field shifts are scheduled by week 3 of the semester. Students are able to select the shifts that best meet their own personal or work schedules.
