How to Apply

The following steps are for International students who wish to be enrolled full-time at OSU-OKC. 

 

Step 1: complete the application for admission.

Step 2: Submit financial documentation.

Current financial guarantee of support showing the ability to finance the projected educational goals. Official bank statement from sponsor dated within the last 6 months.

 

Step 3: Submit official academic records.

Official certified high school records with official English translation if applicant has no prior college work.

 

Step 4: Provide valid identification and government documents.

Valid passport, valid I-94 and I-20 identification (which may be presented on arrival if student is entering the U.S. from abroad).

Step 5: Provide proof of English proficiency.

If English is your second language, you will be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). OSU-OKC offers the paper-based TOEFL in May and December. Students can take the TOEFL at the Oklahoma State Campus in Stillwater, OK throughout the semester by appointment.

 

You might not need to take the TOEFL if:

1. you are a student from Australia, Bahamas, British Isles (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, South Africa, Tobago, Trinidad or West Indies,
2. you have completed at least 24 college hours at an accredited U.S. college or university. Cumulative grade point average must be a minimum of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or
3. you are a graduate of a U.S. high school (must have completed all four years of English).

*Students who score in the conditional range must complete 12 or more weeks of study of English at an approved Intensive English Program (IEP).

 

• Concurrent Enrollment

  Step. 2: Submit a concurrent enrollment permission letter.

  This is a letter from your parent instititution and should be on official school letterhead. This letter must reflect any previous attendance during fall and/or spring terms and how many hours they are permitted to enroll. It must be submitted each semester you plan to attend.

   

  Step 3: Submit official college transcript(s).

  Students must submit a transcript from all institutions attended.

• Transfer Students

  Non-immigrant international students applying to OSU-OKC and currently attending another college or university in the United States or participating in a practical training program through a college or university in the United States must submit a Transfer FROM Another Institution Request form to the OSUOKC International Admissions Office.

   

  Students should complete the top portion of the form, and the International Student Officer/Advisor at the current school should complete and sign the bottom of the form.

   

  Current OSU-OKC international students wishing to transfer TO a different institution should us the Transfer TO Another Institution Request form.

Academic Placement

Now that you have been admitted, you are required to take the COMPASS test to determine your current academic level. It is very important to prepare for the COMPASS test so you can bypass remedial courses. Remedial courses are pre-college courses that may be required if students do not have placement scores that allow them to enroll in college-level courses. 

 

Information and test guides are available through the Testing & Assessment Center. The test guides have only a few sample questions. Some students find it helpful to review math or English-grammar text books or to prepare for the COMPASS exams by using ACT or SAT study guides or preparation materials.

 

COMPASS Test Guides

 

Sometimes students who first test into remedial classes will raise their scores and test into college-level classes when they retest. The COMPASS test is free the first time, and only $4 per sub-section the second time. Sub-sections are Math, Reading, and Writing. The Writing section does NOT require actual writing; it focuses on grammar and usage.

 

Arriving in Oklahoma City

We recommend that international students try to arrive in Oklahoma City two to three weeks before classes begin but no more than 30 days. That allows them time to rest a little and get settled down and explore the area. 

 

Classes start at three different times throughout the year. The fall semester starts in August, the spring semester starts in January and the summer semester begins in June. You should arrive in Oklahoma City at least two weeks before the semester starts, but no more than 30 days, to establish your living quarters, complete the admissions process, take placement tests, and enroll in classes.

 

The temperature in the summer varies between 70° F and 100° F while the temperature in the winter generally ranges between 20° F and 60° F. Oklahoma weather varies and it is recommended to bring plenty of lightweight clothing (t-shirts, shorts, jeans) and heavy clothing (coats, jackets, sweaters). 

 

Housing and Transportation

OSU-OKC does not provide on-campus housing. However, there are several affordable housing options located close to the campus. To get to and from campus, You can use the public bus transportation system or drive your own vehicle. Although driving is more convenient, it also comes with several costs. In addition to buying a car and paying for gasoline, laws require that you obtain an Oklahoma drivers license, purchase automobile insurance, and pay a yearly tax.
